Gravé dans le rivage

"My memory of you remains etched at our spot."

Everywhere one goes, they see their past. The people they’ve known, the different versions of the person they once were, and their memories all remain etched in the places that have impacted their life. The person they’ve become is shaped by the nature in which they were raised. Meadows, rivers, and endless gravel paths anchor the roots of their being. Gravé dans le rivage thus aims to depict the landscapes that shaped the artists identity. In this series of oil paintings, Marguerite Morin borrows from the stereogram its ability to hide silhouettes directly under the viewer's gaze. To do this, subtle symbols linked to the memories she shares with certain places are superimposed on the depicted landscapes; the symbols serve as clues to her past that she shares with the viewer.

Under the same sky, everyone lives different lives, yet can manage to find themselves in what seems familiar. In this exhibition, Morin invites people from the countryside to revisit the places that raised them, with the hope that they will find themselves in the same sunsets that have marked her.

Gravé dans le rivage was accepted to be showcased at the WKP Kennedy Gallery in collaboration with BRAVO for their Franco Contemporain Solo Exhibition Opportunity that highlights a contemporary Francophone artist residing in Northern Ontario. The exhibition took place from November 14th to December 20th 2025.
